Hi! My name is Aurelia Manouvrier, I was born in Belgium and lived a big part of my life in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
I came to the US age 19-20? Went to El Camino Junior College in California, and spent many years taking every art class I could. I worked my way through until I had exhausted the El Camino curriculum. It was time to move on.
Earned a BFA in Sculpture from CSULB. I wanted to get into special effects, monsters and fx make-up. I learned about fabrication, wood and stone carving, mold-making and bronze casting; I even joined the foundry team for a while. Also took a great interest in printmaking and surface design.
I worked my way through college at “Lisa’s Gallery” in Manhattan Beach, CA. It was part gallery, part frame shop. Worked the front end helping customers with framing design, but mostly in the back of the shop, cutting, mitering, glueing: glass, Plexi-glass, wood and mats. I was also the go-to person for “Special Projects”, anything from sports jerseys to antiques. I particularly loved making shadow boxes. Eventually had a 5 year stint at model-making and industrial design at “Jarel Designs” and the “Shape Shop” respectively. But in the end I went a different way.
Always fascinated with patterns, I developed a 20 year career in textile design as entry level designer and over the course rose to senior level with one company, Robert Kaufman Fabrics. The first half as an employee, then went freelance for 5 years but due to life circumstances went back to work full time until recently.
With many twists along the way, I find myself here, ready for a new chapter.
Always willing to try or learn something new…Unless it involves heights 🐭
I LOVE Elephants, not sure where or when the passion started. Probably a convergence of events in my life, but I like other things too:
Art, design, illustration, film & photo, patterns, collage, miniatures, puppetry, animation & gifs of all kinds
Stories, characters, costumes, environments, set design, cinematography, lighting, biomechanics & special effects, mostly in sci-fi, fantasy, steampunk and historical dramas
Old things, new things, imaginary things
Plants and animals, international foods, grit, travel, cards and layers
Oh! Let’s not forget music and dancing, from the mosh pit to the opera. Music is greatly influential in my work.
If you enjoyed the art and designs here, consider leaving me a comment in the blog section below, it would be greatly appreciated!
